On Saturday morning Oliver wheels his red bike out of Grandpa's garage and they ride to the pump track — waves, humps and banked turns of asphalt. The first bump is scary. Then the bike leaves the ground, and Oliver flies.
Next Saturday there's a Duo Race, and at the end of it waits the Giant, the biggest jump in the park. Soft in the knees, eyes on the track: Oliver takes it, rings the finish bell — and Grandpa gives him a medal that can't be bought.
