A carriage with no horses comes down to Eva's gate and carries her and her friends off to Wizard School. There's a lesson for wands, one for the invisibility cloak and one for broomsticks — but Eva's wand only sneezes.
The night before the exam she works it out: her wand doesn't want to be swished, it wants to be asked. On the way home her corgi Button is trapped in a bubble by Thistle the witch — and Eva uses everything she learned, and a little kindness, to bring him home.
