A funny tale full of mishaps. The Twelve Months sit round their great fire in a forest clearing, but on New Year's Eve December vanishes from the circle. The seasons go haywire and change every few minutes, always at the worst moment: the snowman melts in summer sun, the sledge run turns to mud, a spring shower pours onto the New Year table, and an autumn gust blows the decorations into a bear's den. Oliver must find December and bring him back to the fire before the New Year begins, and almost everything on the way goes wrong first.
